Hérémence
The municipality of Hérémence offers several mountain huts!
An experience that must be tried at least once in your life. The high peaks of our Valaisan Alps remained untouched for a long time.
The romantic movement brought the savage beauty of the tumultuous gorges and sharp peaks to light. The first victorious ascents followed and, with them, a passion for mountaineering. Departure bases for races and places in which to shelter in case of bad weather then had to be found. High alpine chalets were built, and the encampments of the first mountaineering pioneers were improved upon.
The foundation of the Swiss Alpine Club (SAC) in 1863 marked the creation of huts and refuges designed to facilitate the practice of mountaineering and to encourage the spirit of adventure in the mountains. In 1911, the SAC already counted 70 huts. Nowadays, other associations, ski-clubs and sporting associations renovate and manage huts. Located at low or medium altitudes, these serve as way stations for hikers. They have become pleasant places to stay with a certain degree of comfort, a warm setting, atmosphere and intimacy, in a word: a soul.
