Discover the architectural heritage of the oldest village in Hérémence.

A typical village of the Val d’Hérens located at 1310 metres above sea level, Mâche is one of the oldest hamlets in the municipality of Hérémence. The largest buildings in the village were built on an impressive rocky escarpment, out of the way of avalanche flows. Most of the buildings were built between 1828 and 1867.

The highest peak of inhabitancy was recorded between 1956 and 1960 with a population of nearly 300. To this day, Mâche still has 151 inhabitants. Amidst barns, attics and dwelling houses, the Mâche village trail allows you to discover the architectural heritage of one of the oldest villages of the commune of Hérémence. A brochure, available at the tourist office, recounts the richness of this architectural heritage and the life of the mountain people of yesteryear.
