Discover a characterful valley

Under three hours from Swiss major cities Zurich, Basel and Bern, two hours from Geneva and one hour from Lausanne, Val des Dix (a valley in the heart of authentic Val d'Hérens) offers a wide range of nature holiday options. Val des Dix promises a holiday surrounded by nature and away from the summer crowds. The sporty will enjoy alpine trails and treks, deep thinkers will like going on panoramic walks with views of the Dent Blanche and the Matterhorn, and culture fans will love the rich built heritage in the alpine villages.

This is the place for you if you like taking your time, filling up on fresh mountain air, trying summer activities, meeting the locals, tasting local produce and being in authentic alpine villages! Val des Dix is a great place to holiday all year round.

Where to stay

Like staying somewhere unusual? Sleep in the pastures, in a worker's building, in a timeless inn... If you love typical mountain guesthouses, little family-run boarding houses with a decidedly "mountain" feel, or staying with the property owner in the heart of picturesque hamlets, then you're going to enjoy our accommodation selection.

SWISS TINY CHALET

The only one in Switzerland! The first "Tiny House" available to book for couple's getaways with nature right on the doorstep. This "little house on the prairie" comes to the foot of the Grande Dixence dam in Pralong between July and October. The Swiss Tiny Chalet gives you the chance to focus on what matters, live a simple life and look after the environment. Those who've tested it say they love it! A different night in a tiny chalet as told by Valentine. Info & bookings: https://www.swisstinychalet.ch

GITES IN THE PASTURE

These former pig barns have been turned into holiday accommodation made up of five comfortable renovated chalets. Each has two floors with a living room and bathroom on the ground floor, then the sleeping area for four to eight people on the mezzanine above. Alexandre and his team welcome groups of friends or family to the heart of the pastureland for stays focusing on nature and foodie pleasures. Discover the 10 things to see and do near the Mandelon pasture.  Info & bookings: https://www.mandelon.ch/

AUBERGE DU VAL DES DIX

Tucked away at the bottom of Val des Dix in the little hamlet of Pralong with its traditional chalets, this timeless guesthouse welcomes visitors all year round. It's an elegant wooden building in a decidedly "mountain" style with a quaint sense of charm, and is an ideal base for hikers wanting to get out into the surrounding area. See what Eric, a blogger and trekker, has to say about his experience.  Info & bookings: https://www.val-des-dix.com/

THE "RITZ"

Here, at the bottom of the imposing Grande Dixence wall, was where those working on the dam stayed. They called it the "Ritz". This industrial-looking building with 60 bedrooms is the place to become part of the dam story.  Info & bookings: http://www.hotel-barrage.ch

CABANE D'ESSERTZE

If you've always wanted to stay overnight in the mountains, but aren't an expert mountaineer, then this hut is for you! It's easy to access and stands at 2191 metres in an alpine setting. This is an idyllic spot for mountain breaks. The hut is looked after all summer by volunteers. Info & bookings: http://essertze.ch/
Val des Dix has plenty of huts and refuges.
