Portrait-interview of Loïc Meillard

Let's get to know each other!
My name is Loïc Meillard and I'm originally from Neuchâtel, but I've spent more than half my life in Hérémence.
What inspires you about Hérémence and the Val d'Hérens in general?
It's the place where I feel at home, the place where I can relax but also take advantage of all there is to do in the surrounding area.
Do you have a secret corner to share?
It wouldn't be a secret if I told you ;-)
What's your favourite season? What's your favourite season?
Winter, of course, as a skier!
Tell us a bit about your discipline, your activity?
I've been a professional skier on the World Cup circuit since 2015. This allows me to travel a lot around the world and discover lots of places. But none of them are better than Hérémence 😊
What are your best memories of skiing in Hérémence?
Unfortunately, because of my busy schedule, I don't have much time left to ski in Hérémence. However, I do have unforgettable memories of my weekends and holidays as a child!
What would be your top 3 suggestions for things to see and do in the region?

In summer, a walking tour of the Grande Dixence dam with a stop at the Cabane de Prafleuri.

In winter, take a snowshoe or sealskin tour of Mandelon, and why not try a cheese fondue at the summit?
Take a walk along the ridges between the top of the Ethérolla chairlift and the Essertze hut, passing through the Essertze gullies.
Little bonus: Visit the pyramids at Euseigne and... top secret!
What advice would you give to a visitor to the region?
Go for a walk on the heights and enjoy a picnic with a breathtaking view.
How would you like to see your village and the valley in 20 years' time or more?
I hope that the place will be able to adapt to the demands and needs of tourism, without losing its values and its history.
Any last words?
#MagicValley
