The Patrouille des Glaciers is not just a race, it is a human adventure for three, a journey through history, mountains, sport, friendship and emotion organised by the Swiss Army.
This historic, national and international military race is open to civilian competitors, both elite and amateur.
Follow the 41st edition of the Patrouille des Glaciers, which connects Zermatt to Verbier via Arolla from 13 to 19 April 2026.
The short patrol rallies AROLLA to VERBIER
Route A of the Patrouille des Glaciers (PdG), also known as the short patrol, takes runners from AROLLA to VERBIER. This is a real feat for the teams involved. (29.6 km and 2,200 m of elevation gain)
For several days, the charming village of Arolla, nestled in the Val d'Hérens, is transformed into a veritable festival venue at the foot of the majestic glaciers. Arolla is the starting point for the short Patrouille des Glaciers route, offering civilian and military patrols the opportunity to set off on the route towards the Col de Tsena Réfien, followed by the Pas du Chat, La Barma, La Rosablanche, the Col de Momin, the Col de la Chaux, and Les Ruinettes, before finally reaching Verbier.
The long patrol goes from Zermatt to Verbier via Arolla
The Z route of the Patrouille des Glaciers (PdG), also known as the long patrol, takes runners from Zermatt to Verbier via Arolla. It is a real tour de force for the participating teams. (57.5 km and 4,386 m of elevation gain)
Under the starry sky or at dawn, the start comes to life on the square in front of Zermatt station. The Bahnhofplatz and Bahnhofstrasse become unique stages, offering captivating entertainment to spectators as the various categories set off. A cosmopolitan gathering of civilian and military patrols come together for this challenge before setting off on the route from Zermatt to Furi, then Ober Stafel, Schönbiel, Stockji, Tête Blanche, Bertol Pass, Plan Bertol, Arolla, Riedmatten Pass, Pas du Chat, La Barma, Rosablanche, Momin Pass, Col de la Chaux, Les Ruinettes before arriving in Verbier.
