GOUILLES OF ESSERTZE PONDS

The Gouilles of Essertze, located at 2300 m above sea level, offer visitors a breathtaking view of the Val d’Hérens and unparallelled tranquillity. From mid-June to mid-October. On the way, the Essertze hut, with its typical architecture, is an obligatory stop for the curious. Walking time can be shortened thanks to the Trabanta chairlift (beginning or end of the route).

Difficulty: Hike recommended for experienced walkers.  
 
Variation 1
Start from Collons, pass by the Essertze hut, ascend to the Gouilles of Essertze and return by Thyon 2000. It is possible to climb up to Mt Rouge and return along the ridges.
Distance: approx. 7 km
Duration: approx. 3:30 am
 
Variation 2
Start from Collons using the Trabanta chairlift, walk along the ridges, descend to the Gouilles of Essertze and return via Thyon 2000.
Distance: approx. 3.5 km
Duration: approx. 2:15 am
 
Variation 3
Start from Thyon 2000, follow the route of the Thyon-Dixence race to the Gouilles of Essertze, return either by the ridges walk, or by the Essertze hut and the Collons.
Distance: approx. 3 Km
Duration: approx. 2:35 am
