Ascent and historical tour of Grande Dixence

Relive the era of the construction of the Grande Dixence dam by travelling in the legendary 1951 ‘Saurer 2cm 4 x 4’ bus used by the workers at the time. A historian will guide you through the fascinating stories of this titanic construction site that left its mark on the Dixence valley. A day to remember.

 
Programme:

9.05am - 9.35am: Travel by ‘modern’ coach from Sion station to Hérémence.

9.45am - 10.45am: Journey by ‘Saurer’ oldtimer from 1951 from Hérémence to Grande-Dixence.

11.00 - 12.00: Guided tour, led by a specialist historian

12.00 - 13.00: Light refreshments and a drink.

13.15 - 15.15: Free time on site

(possibility of visiting the inside of the dam wall at 1:30 p.m., booking at http://shop.grande-dixence.ch/fr, not included in the historical tour).

15.30 - 16.15: Departure on the Saurer bus between Grande-Dixence and Hérémence.

16:34 - 17:05: Return journey from Hérémence to Sion station.
